One of the oldest ballet companies in the world, founded in 1773 by King Gustaf III, the Royal Swedish Ballet is led by Artistic Director
Johannes Öhman. The company has a strong foundation in classical ballet repertory, and also performs contemporary dance works by renowned choreographers. The company actively commissions work by Swedish choreographers such as Mats Ek, Örjan Andersson, Johan Inger and Alexander Ekman, and performs works by a wide range of internationally renowned artists including Antony Tudor, Jiri Kylian, Sharon Eyal, Crystal Pite and William Forsythe. As part of the company’s 240-year celebration in 2013, Mats Ek was invited to create a new Juliet and Romeo, a full evening ballet for the Royal Swedish Ballet, which the company toured to the Kennedy Center and the Segerstrom Center in Costa Mesa in June 2016.
