In 2009, Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela’s sensuous aesthetic initiated a new chapter in the annals of the legendary Sydney Dance Company. Bonachela is a self-proclaimed “movement junkie”: his choreography is packed with intricate, amazing pattern-play; the dancers ignite the stage with “creative precision and exhilarating energy.” Among the countless accolades to date, one critic recently wrote, “Sydney Dance Company is a versatile and beautifully-schooled group of performers... emotionally driven and passionately and powerfully danced. An outstanding evening.” Under Bonachela's leadership, the Company has won a number of awards including Outstanding Performance by a Company, Australian Dance Awards, and Green Room Awards. Sydney Dance Company is indisputably Australia’s leading contemporary dance group, touring internationally with an array of Bonachela’s works and collaborating with other prominent choreographers, artists, designers and musicians from around the world. Sydney Dance Company presents a powerful evening repertory program with three distinct and internationally celebrated choreographers, Rafael Bonachela, Jacopo Godani and Gabrielle Nankivell. RAWMODELS Choreography: Jacopo Godani

Australian choreographer Gabrielle Nankivell's Wildebeest is a high-energy tour de force of dancers physicality.
Taught by company dancers and / or Rehearsal Director Chris Aubrey, Sydney Dance Company’s master classes include a technical warm-up to provide the grounding for Rafael Bonachela’s highly physical style of movement. Participants are guided through a section of the choreography from the repertory and take part in a creative task. Classes are suitable for professional dancers or students with vocational training but can be adjusted to suit lower levels.
School performances give students a unique opportunity to hear artistic staff talk about the process of creating and staging a new work as well as to watch a demonstration of company class. The Company will also perform repertory and end the performance with a Q&A session. Student performances are tailored for a junior high - high school age range.
